Making mvnrepository.com a better search engine

10.06.2016 14:18:03

About six months ago I published a post where I compared search capabilities of most popular Maven search engines. Javalibs.com (my creation) was clear winner, mostly because I spent incredibly long time fine-tuning the search. Mvnrepository.com (most used Maven search engine) was second and the rest (search.maven.org, maven-repository.com, libraries.io and bintray.com) failed completely.

Nowadays when I want to search for some Java library, I use javalibs.com (obviously) :-) But sometimes I also visit other search engines and few days ago I noticed that mvnrepository.com search capabilities got much better (on par with javalibs.com). Btw: other search engines didn't improve at all.

I'm not paranoid, but maybe, just maybe somebody from mvnrepository.com got wind of my blog post or javalibs.com website and fine-tuned their search algorithm. Anyway, I'm glad they fixed it. It annoyed me for several years and was one of the reasons that made me create javalibs.com.
